GIVE YOURSELF A HEAD MASSAGE

The scalp massage you get at the salon is pretty much your favorite part of getting a haircut or a blowout, right? While it's admittedly physically impossible to totally replicate the experience without one of those reclining chairs and an extra set of hands, here are a few pointers on how to make washing your own hair a more enjoyable experience.

Run your hands through your hair from front to back. Use the tips of your fingers and move in a straight motion. Apply downward pressure, paying careful attention to all the little bumps and indents in your scalp. Use a healthy amount of pressure, but don’t push so hard that you feel pain or discomfort.

Use circular motions from front to back. Move from front to back again. This time, use the tips of your fingers to make small circles as you make your way across your scalp. Maintain the same gentle but steady level of pressure.

Reverse the direction. Move from the back of your head to the front. Repeat both the straight and circular motions. You should start at the bottom of your hairline and come forward to the crown.

Repeat the movements from the sides. Now, it’s time to cover the sides of your scalp. Start on the left at the front. Move straight up and down, then repeat in circles. Move to the base of your head on the left side. Repeat for the right side, doing both the front and back halves of your scalp.

SOAK IT UP

There’s nothing more relaxing than sinking into a hot bath after a long day. Ease away tension and stress with a soothing citrus bath; fill up the tub with hot water and add a few slices of lemon, letting the citrus scent fill the room. The acidity from the lemon helps to remove dead skin cells, draw out toxins and relieve stress with the mood-boosting scent, leaving you with a healthy glow and a balanced mind.
